This is an offshoot of the original Liam & Janet blog. That blog has become overrun by Liam's inability to keep his mouth shut when something annoys him. The serious rants there seemed incongruous with the humor columns. The plan for the humor columns continues to be to post a new one every Friday, plus occasional extras when the mood strikes.

Deal for Blog Explosion Battle of the Blogs folks

Battle of the Blogs is frustrating. Most of the winning blogs are those that look immediately pretty, because most people don't take the time to actually read any content before voting.

That works to my detriment, because this blog is all about the content. Now, it may be that my essays really aren't that funny. And if I knew that, it'd be good information.

But I think SOMETIMES I lose just because the other site is prettier.

So I'll make you a deal: If you're reading this in a battle of the blogs, and you want to vote against me, go ahead. But then come back and actually read one of the essays and leave me a comment. The reason I participate in Blog Explosion is to get feedback, to see if I'm really any good at this or not. I can deal with honest criticism. I just go crazy not knowing if losing a BotB means I'm not funny, or just that I don't make as good a first impression.

Deal?

Notice...

Since this week's column was previously "posted" as a draft, the subscription service didn't pick it up as new when I made it active.

As a result, this note is here to trigger an e-mail to anyone who relies on that service to let them know there's something new on the blog.

Subscriptions!

[December 2006 update: bloglet.com seems to be down more often than it is up, and I found over time that it rarely got around to sending out my updates. I am now using "FeedBlitz", which so far has been working better. --Liam]

I found a site called bloglet.com that allows me to set up subscriptions to my blog.

If you look on the upper right, just above the ads, you should see a spot where you can enter your e-mail address and then hit "Subscribe".

If you do that, my essays (and anything else I post) will be automatically e-mailed to you.

I'd still love to have people come back and make comments when the mood strikes, but hopefully this will be easier for some of you.

(And as with any automatic e-mail, it's possible your e-mail system might consider something spam. If you don't get a new essay each Friday, check back with the site.)

I'm still testing this out, so let's hope it works right!

Blog Explosion

Something I've learned from blogexplosion.com: If you're taking on someone else's blog in a "battle of the blogs", it's probably best not to have the very top post be your link praising the other person's site. :-)

If you're looking for the best of my site, please try one of these two essays:

Cue Ball City (3/18/2005)
Atonal, Arrhythmic, Aaaaaaaaa! (4/22/2005)

Another Blog Site

A lot of so-called "humor blogs" pretty much suck in my opinion. (Please don't tell me if you think mine falls into the same category).

I was, therefore, very pleased to find this site, and particularly this post.

If you enjoy my stuff (or even if you don't), I strongly advise checking out Tony Calabrese. He's funny.
