This is an offshoot of the original Liam & Janet blog. That blog has become overrun by Liam's inability to keep his mouth shut when something annoys him. The serious rants there seemed incongruous with the humor columns. The plan for the humor columns continues to be to post a new one every Friday, plus occasional extras when the mood strikes.

What you need to know about e-mail subscriptions to my blog:

I) How to sign up:
  • On the right hand side, just above the advertisements, you'll find a text field with a "Subscribe" button next to it.
  • Type your e-mail address into the text box.
  • Hit "Subscribe".
  • Laugh uproariously about once per week. Not that my column will necessarily aid you in that, but it's probably good for you anyway.

II) The E-mails you'll receive:

The subscription service I use sends out one e-mail per day (if there's anything new), currently sometime between midnight and 6am. If you check the blog and wonder why a post from this morning isn't in your mailbox, that's probably why, if everything is working right, you should find it the next morning by 6am.

III) A word about Spam:

With advanced spam filters these days, one never knows what items are going to be considered spam and forwarded to the "bit bucket" on your system. If you don't see something from me every Friday (or actually, Saturday morning), check back to the blog site to make sure you're not losing your subscription.

IV) The Index Post:

At the top of the blog, I maintain an Index post of all of the essays I've written thus far. Because I re-post that every time there's a new essay (to add the new essay and to keep it pinned to the top), I believe every week's e-mail will contain it. I'm sorry for that, there doesn't seem to be any way to turn off that behavior.

V) A word about "Draft Essays":

I'm still working out the kinks with regard to these. I often write my essays in advance. When a topic suggests itself, I'll write it and then use's "Save as Draft" functionality to leave it on the site. That way, no matter where I am, I can get at it, read through it, maybe touch it up a bit, and then when it comes time to post on Friday, I'm not out of luck if I'm on vacation. I just find Internet access and I'm golden.

HOWEVER... It appears as though the subscription service doesn't know "Draft" (aka invisible, un-published) postings from regular ones. As a result, you may find with the subscription service, you get to see the postings when I originally write them, and then again (polished) when I post them on Friday. This is not the behavior I would like to see, but if I can't find a way around it, just consider this a "subscriber bonus", you get to read essays sooner than everyone else.

(Subscription service is thanks to the friendly folks at

Hello and Welcome to my humor site. If you're just looking around and not sure if you want to stay, here are a couple of examples to start you out and show you what this blog is capable of:

This blog was created when my favorite humor columnist went on hiatus in 2004, and I decided to see if I could write a humor column in his style. So far I think I've managed it, if by "his style" you mean "as prolific, but with less actual humor".

I post a new humor essay, in the words of another humorist I enjoy, "approximately whenever I feel like it". For a long time, I tried to maintain a weekly pace, and I so badly burned myself out on it that I gave up for about a year. As of this writing, I've recently begun writing again, and thus far it's been about once a week, but there are no warranties expressed or implied. Your mileage may vary. If a rash develops, notify your doctor. If you experience an erection, I can't see how that could have been the result of this blog.

I have an index post which I try to keep pinned just below the top, so that there's a "One Stop Shopping" list for all of the current essays. Since I have self published a book of my earliest essays, most of them are no longer available on-line, as I would like to recoup some of the losses involved in self-publishing a book.

Thanks to the folks at, there is an e-mail subscription available (click here for more information).

If you have questions or comments, feel free to use the "comments" section, or e-mail me at

That about covers it, I think. I hope you enjoy your stay!
